Power Supply Dictionary Now Online: Learn Coil Whine, Voltage Ripple, 80 Plus, and More
Posted on February 18, 2015
As part of our ongoing effort to define major component specifications, we've now published our “PSU Dictionary” to about 80% completion. Additional entries will be listed throughout the week's end. The PSU dictionary details critical terminology to selecting a quality power supply, including 80 Plus certifications, Rails (PSU), electrical protections, voltage ripple, and (soon) coil whine.
Our Specs Dictionary was launched alongside the new version of the website, set to live at the beginning of the year. The dictionary helps hardware enthusiasts and gamers understand their component's listed features and specifications, like Texture Fill-Rate and ROPs for GPUs. Thus far, we've introduced GPU, mechanical keyboard, SSD, game graphics, and PSU dictionarys, all viewable here.
The PSU dictionary is largely written by Michael Kerns and Patrick Stone, two electrical and power enthusiasts on our staff. Additional dictionaries and hardware-oriented features are in the works for the very near future, with several major website components launching after PAX East 2015.
If you have requests or questions, please post them below. As always, we're grateful for your patronage and interest in computer hardware!
