This coming week will see publication of an SSD NAND discussion piece, a GTX 1080 review – and likely subsequent 1070 review, and some feature content that we've been quietly working on. The sales round-ups always serve as a means to tease some of our upcoming content, as many of you know, and see publication on Sundays where we're trying to ramp into the week.
This Sunday sees posting of GTX 980 discount pricing – new permanent prices nearing $380 – and a slew of PSU sales from Corsair, with ancillary discounts on ASUS displays. See below.
MSI GTX 980 4GB ($380): Dropped from its long-standing price of ~$500, the GTX 980 is now available at around the launch price of the GTX 970. The 980 was somewhat invalidated by the GTX 980 Ti, but at $380, it's got some merit. This particular version uses a blower fan, so you won't want to run it too hard in the overclocking (and it'd do best in specific build scenarios, like ITX cases). At $380, it's a worthy consideration for the relative performance.
Corsair CX450M PSU ($30): After $20 MIR, Corsair's 450W CX PSU (rated 80 Plus Bronze) competes with EVGA's aggressive pricing over the past months. We've previously shown that 450W is more than enough for most users, especially as new generation hardware continues to lower the power envelope. This PSU is semi-modular; the 24-pin and 8-pin EPS12V connectors are permanently attached, with four total removable PCI-e and SATA/peripheral connectors.
Note: Corsair's RMx 550W 80 Plus Gold PSU is also marked down to $70 after MIR.
ASUS ROG PG278Q Display ($670): The ASUS PG278Q is a 27”, 1440p display with a 144Hz refresh rate, planting it into the “ideal gaming” range of displays for competitive players. The 144Hz refresh is accompanied by G-Sync, if that's desired, and a 1ms GTG response. Note that the G-Sync offering does suggest rather strongly that the display is accompanied by a GTX GPU, lest a large portion of the monitor's cost go unappreciated in use.
Check back through the week for reviews and some feature content.
