Cyber Monday Sales: 1TB SSD for $200, Corsair 200R for $46, & $140 500GB SSD
Posted on November 29, 2015
In the calm between the storms – Black Friday and Cyber Monday – a few hangers-on have remained on sale through the weekend. Granted, “sale” is almost meaningless at this point; there's a near-perpetual discount on PC hardware through various vendors, but that's good news for system builders. This weekend, we found a 960GB SSD for $270 (or $200 via Newegg), 500GB SSD for $140, Corsair 200R for $46, and Logitech G910 for $160.
Samsung 850 EVO 500GB SSD ($140): As is often the case, Amazon has significantly inflated the list price (from about $200 to $270) to make this deal seem more impressive--they didn't really need to, though, at $0.28 per GB. Considering SSDs were more than $1/GB just a few years ago, this is a massive step forward. The 850 EVO isn't the fastest SSD on the market, but for gaming, mainstream, and most builds which aren't IO intensive, it's a balanced price/performance/capacity choice.
SanDisk Ultra II 960GB SATA III SSD ($270): SSD prices have kept dropping, as shown above. This has largely been attributed to Flash supply and manufacturing efficiency, with yields and process improvements from NAND manufacturers. The SanDisk Ultra II is sold out on Newegg already, but was briefly positioned another $70 less than Amazon's price. We're not sure if it'll be back in stock. Amazon's price stands at $270 as a go-to, otherwise.
Corsair 200R ATX Mid-Tower Case ($46 after rebate): We haven't reviewed the 200R specifically, but we've worked with it in the past. The 200R is a case that's actually worth the full $60 when reviewing, for instance, lesser cases. The 200R currently comes with a $10 rebate, making the price more than reasonable, and includes one of Corsair's higher-end 120mm LED case fans for free.
Logitech G910 Orion Spark Mechanical Keyboard ($160): We were impressed with the G910 a year ago, giving it the Editor's Choice award as part of our in-depth review. It's not quite at the $150 mark that GN's Steve would like, but it's still a fairly competitive price for such a high-end peripheral. The G910 is an RGB LED backlit keyboard with Logitech's Romer G switches, which feel and sound similar to Cherry MX Brown damped switches (see: G710+).
