Gaming Hardware Sales – $300 UltraWide, $700 34” Curved, & More Monitors
Posted on October 25, 2015
This weekend marks the first appearance of an UltraWide monitor in our sales round-ups. An LG 29” 21:9 UltraWide is on sale for 50%, alongside a ~$700 34” curved display (also LG) and 24” ASUS display.
LG UltraWide 29” Display ($300): I'm tempted to buy this one. $300 and free shipping for a 29” display in the UltraWide form factor, which scales 21:9 versus the more standard 16:9. This means your pixel height will be the usual 1080, but width (in pixels) measures at 2560. FreeSync and adaptive sync technologies are present, asissting in the elimination of tearing. The display uses an IPS panel with impressive color depth, outputting improved color quality over TN displays (and at better viewing angles – important for UltraWide). The response time is 5ms GTG, which is acceptable for most gamers.
LG 34” UltraWide WQHD ($695): Sold through popular photography website Adorama, this LG display measures 5” wider (corner-to-corner) than the previous unit, but is curved. The curvature makes for some wrapping around the user's peripheral vision, aiding in immersion with movies or cinematic games. Resolution is 3440 x 1440 for the LG 34UC87C-B.
ASUS VE248H 2ms ($140): ASUS' VE248H is a little more reasonable compared to the above. This display runs 1920 x 1080 (16:9) and responds in 2ms (GTG), making it a little better tuned for competitive gamers. Use promo code 1020SCARY86 at checkout for a $20 discount.
Check back this week for additional hardware reviews, some versus articles, and the usual video coverage!
