Welcome to another edition of Mik's picks, where we find some of the weekend's best gaming hardware sales. I hope everyone had a good fourth of July -- but now it's time to get back to GN's reality: System building. What better way than to see what great deals are out there for you to check out?
Team 8GB 1600MHz Vulcan RAM ($53): The price of RAM has gone up quite a bit in the past few weeks, so when I saw 8GB of DDR3 RAM for only $53, I had to include it. For $20 less than most other memory of this capacity and speed specification, you get two golden sticks of RAM with solid reviews. Team Elite has been around for a little while and had a rough start, but they're starting to stabilize -- it's definitely still the "unfamiliar" brand name for most, though. Let's just hope the other brands decide to lower their prices a bit as time goes on.
Samsung 1TB 7200RPM HDD ($55): When I first saw this price I had to double check for some sort of typo. After seeing it was genuine, I just had to include it as a pick of the week. Samsung is offering a healthy TB of storage space for a very low $55, which is the lowest we've seen in nearly 2-3 years now. It is not as fast as aSolid State Drive, but at 7200RPM it is fast enough to be either your primary storage device or a secondary storage device. At this price, it's almost too good to pass up.
Kingwin 120mm Case Fan (free): OK, there's not much better than free. Nothing, in my book. Kingwin/TD are offering a fantastic deal here with their blue LED 120mm fans that are $9 with a $9 rebate. So you theoretically get a quiet 19dBA fan for free + shipping. If you want to lower the temps in your build, and have been waiting for a good deal to do so, this is the pick for you. It's not particularly fast, but is relatively quiet and will move enough air to be worth the install in most builds. We do have to note that sometimes these "free" fan deals are limited in their offers, so be sure to fill out the rebate form ASAP.
Rosewill R5 Gaming Case ($60): We really fell in love with the Rosewill R5 at PAX East 2012, and the infatuation has endured. As you can see in the review we did here, this case offers many more features than most other cases in this price range. With everything from dust filters to the sturdy steel chassis, this case has features, cooling, and build quality of cases twice the price.
Time for the Pick of the Week!
Sapphire HD 7850 GPU ($140): Once again the pick of the week is a video card, but being a gaming site, it makes good sense. This is a great price for a budget GPU, for $140 you get a 1GB version of AMD's 7850, solid for mid-range and entry-level gaming tasks. This video card is able to play most if not all games out there at medium to high settings (depending on the game). It also comes with a dual-fan heatsink to help keep the temps down while you game away.
Well, that's all for this week. There are many more deals out there to find, so until next time.
