GTA V Performance Degradation Resultant of Patch 1.28, Modders Claim

Posted on

Rockstar games recently indicated through support channels that it has “received reports of lower framerate in GTA V and GTA Online after Title Update 1.28 on PC,” further stating that the company is investigating said reports.

The 1.28 GTA V update included a new decryption and obfuscation layer that was implemented as an anti-hacking measure, theoretically making it more difficult to inconspicuously shoehorn hacks into the game. Alongside this update came the inclusion of a 3MB file providing new calls for modders, restricting access to core function calls and instead requiring modders to use more secure aliases. LCPDFR modders posted the following on facebook, as found by Maximum PC:

"Instead of the native functions of the game being accessible directly - we now have to jump through 4 or 5 hoops each time, as the game also implements live decryption and obfuscation methods. This severely impacts performance, resulting in gameplay at 3 frames per second - even on some of the strongest PC systems available today."

GTA V has been a mixed bag of performance results. The PC performance initially surprised us with its PC-friendly approach to fully unlocked options and tweaking, but laptop performance was dead in the water. It wasn't until recently that users on nvidia and AMD mobile GPUs could actually play with their dGPU enabled.

Rockstar has assured users that it is investigating reports and, if present, will attempt a fix in the future. Read more here.
