Kingston Digital was responsible for a full 16% of SSDs shipped in 2016, according to data compiled by research firm Forward Insights. This puts their market share in second place, just behind Samsung’s 21%.
Of 63 million SSDs shipped in the sales channel analyzed, 10.1 million were Kingston drives. SSDs continue to grow in popularity, and are beginning to displace HDDs on the manufacturing side of the market. Mechanical drives have mostly stagnated in terms of development, while SSDs are advancing in leaps and bounds.
According to Forward Insights, “although under allocation since mid-Q2 2016, channel shipments as a whole remained strong and Kingston was one of the top leaders in this category” as “a number of the semiconductor-based vendors de-emphasized their channel business.” If anyone is falling short on production, Kingston is poised to fill the gap in this increasingly profitable market.
