Just a heads-up for regular readers: We’ll be at CES next week, where Intel and AMD are likely to each be sharing news of their new processor architectures. As always, we’ll be covering any events or information stemming from CES, including possible architectural deep-dives and any on-site demonstrations. They’re not the only companies at the show, of course.
We’ve got plans to revise our SSD testing methodology (again) through meetings with major controller and SSD manufacturers, hopefully paving the way for more automated testing under the GN banner in 2017. Meetings include the usual suspects: Samsung, Kingston/HyperX, Plextor, and possibly a few others.
Aside from SSDs and CPUs, our team of four will be working to report on a slew of new cases and the slowing expansion of RGB LEDs. The case presence won’t be as big as other products, given the amount of late 2016 case shipments, but we’ll almost certainly receive a preview into what will eventually be shown at Computex, then later shipped.
As always, now is a good time to get your questions in for our meetings with the major vendors. You can tweet @GamersNexus, post a comment below, or comment on our YouTube videos. We’ll try to forward those questions along, though we’ve already got a pretty good idea of what to cover. Certainly doesn’t hurt to hear from the community. Note that YouTube has a much worse signal-to-noise ratio, so it’d probably be best to tweet or comment your questions.
As for CES predictions, it looks like this year will be CPU-heavy for quarter 1, and then will shift into some potential big GPU (Vega) launches thereafter. We don’t expect as much noise from nVidia in the first half of the year, given their huge push for the past 6 months, but there’ll no doubt be some adjustments made to compete with AMD’s new products.
Cases, cooling, and power – well, those seem to operate largely on their own schedule, and should probably start making the most noise around mid-year.
