Valve's Steam PC gaming platform reportedly bested its own record for peak concurrent users on 1/1/15, logging in excess of 8.4 million simultaneous gamers on the platform.
Steam's statistics pinpointed the exact users simultaneously logged-in as 8,466,441 on January 1st, leading its previous record of 8 million users in June, 2014. The most popular titles leading 2015's charge were DOTA2, with 875k players, and CS:GO, with 360k players. Both titles are owned by Valve, ensuring a strong start to the year for the game publisher and developer.
In 2013, Steam landed 7 million simultaneous users, which outranked its 2012 record of 6 million simultaneous users. Strictly in terms of concurrent users, the platform is growing on average 15% per year and shows no signs of plateauing. That's impressive for software that already seems so prolific.
