StarCraft 2 Day 1 Synopsis - MLG Raleigh 2011

Posted on August 27, 2011

A nuke?! Nobody nukes (successfully) at tournaments! MLG's first series of SC2 matches ran last night, so if you missed out on them, here's a quick synopsis of the events:

The first match of the evening was EGIdrA vs. STBomber; the games were played on Dual Sight and Metalopolis, with Bomber rising 2-0 by using early-to-mid game pushes and containments.

Second match of the evening: EGHuK vs. SlayerS_CoCa. SlayerS_CoCa convincingly took this match 2-0, hugging HuK after the final and most intense battle ended.

The third match was Dignitas.Naniwa vs. Fnatic.Rain. Fnatic.Rain took this match 2-1, and surprised the entire crowd with a nuke rush and EMP spread; Naniwa just barely fell short in the final battle when his forcefields negated the "nuclear launch detected" warning, allowing Rain's nuke rush to succeed and destroy what little remained of Naniwa's army. By far, this was the most explosive moment in the entire evening: the crowd erupted in "OOOOOOOHHHH!!!!!"s and shouted warnings in vain, for the sound-proof booths make it impossible to warn contendors.

The next match was Dignitas.SeleCT vs. MVPDRG. The same game repeated twice. SeleCT went marine tank and was unable to keep DRG in his base, giving DRG an easy 2-0.

oGs.NaDa vs. LiquidRet was the most exciting match of the night for me as Ret almost took NaDa out, but in the third game Ret did not quite solidify any advantages and lost to a marine-tank-Thor push.

Finally, LiquidTLO was disqualified because he was watching the game between IdrA and Bomber! He’s not yet out, but he will have a tough way up the ranks. IdrA lost 0-2 to DignitasSjoW when he had the advantage for most of the game, and threw his headset down in disappointment at the end of his second lost match for the day.
